About the course
Our hands-on curriculum connects our award-winning Theatre Department with UIndy's highly regarded School of Education. You'll be given the opportunity to study all areas of theatre and apply your studies to the classroom experience in public and private schools in the Indianapolis area. To be eligible for a middle/high school teaching license, you must take at least 46.5 credit hours in theatre, in addition to education courses. You can complete the program in four years. To make sure you stay on track in both areas, you'll have two academic advisors-one in the Theatre Department and one in the Teacher Education Department.
Theatre portion of the curriculum focuses on all areas of theatre including acting, directing, production, scenic design, costume design, lighting, dramatic literature and more
Education courses cover fundamental teaching concepts and methods that allow you to develop your personal identity as a theatre teacher
Ability to enter the classroom within your first year, gaining experience very early on in your education
A variety of school settings give you practice with applying various teaching methods in the classroom
