About the course
The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre is intended for students who wish to pursue the study of theatre situated within a liberal arts tradition. The undergraduate program is committed to developing creative thinkers with artistic vision through a program that emphasizes the interplay between critical thinking and artistic practice. All courses must be taken for a grade. Miami?s Department of Theatre is an intimate community of students, faculty, and staff committed to exploring theatre and drama for personal growth and social change. We aim to Make Theatre Make a Difference, and can't think of a better way to explore, articulate, and share our stories than through the art of theatre. Students are at the center of all we do. Our academic degrees are designed to allow students to tailor a course of study suited to their personal interests. Students may pursue general studies in theatre or specialize by taking courses in areas such as acting, design (scenic, costume, lighting), technology, directing, dramaturgy, playwriting, and more.
Our alumni work in all areas of the entertainment industry, from Broadway to major motion pictures and beyond. They also develop many highly valuable skills that make them valuable employees for any job, the communication and collaboration skills theatre majors develop are highly transferable. This major helps prepare students for opportunities including theater production or performance, as well as many related areas such as advertising, arts management, dance, television, film, live entertainment, recreation, and academia.
