About the course
Our undergraduate curriculum offers a great deal of flexibility. Many of our students, preparing for business careers, pursue a dual degree in economics and business in conjunction with Pitt's College of Business Administration. Our majors benefit from a wide range of seminars emphasizing writing and student research. The department's Bachelor of Science track enables students with appropriate backgrounds to take courses that fully exploit their quantitative training. The Department of Economics is part of the University of Pittsburgh's Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. Economics is one of the school's largest majors, serving more than 1,000 undergraduate students. Our vibrant research community includes more than 50 graduate students working toward their PhDs in economics. Faculty and graduate students explore six fields: applied microeconomics, economic theory, macroeconomics, econometrics, international economics, and experimental economics. The department hosts six different seminars as well as five brown-bag seminars where outside visitors, our faculty, and our graduate students present and discuss their research. How to apply
Entry requirements for University of Pittsburgh
Letters of Recommendation- While we appreciate your teachers, counselors, and other mentors taking the time to write recommendation letters on your behalf, we find letters are beneficial in very limited circumstances (for example: providing context for variance in your overall academic performance).
Completed online application for admission. This can be the University of Pittsburgh Application, the Common Application, or the Coalition Application – we accept all three and do not prefer one over the other. Please choose the one that is best for you!
$55 application fee.
High school academic information. You can send us a transcript, but we encourage you to submit our Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) instead. Completing the SRAR is easy – just fill it out to match your transcript exactly – and it speeds up your application processing time.
Official SAT or ACT results. We’re a test-friendly institution, which means that we will take your highest ACT composite score and your highest SAT superscore. We don’t require the SAT Essay or ACT Writing scores.
Applicants are reviewed holistically, however, and those with a 95-99 TOEFL and a solid academic record will be given strong consideration in the admissions process for the Pittsburgh campus
