About the course

A Bachelor of Arts (BA) in American Sign Language from Wichita State combines classroom and applied learning in a variety of professional settings, from legal and business to medical and educational. You'll gain real-world experience translating and interpreting, preparing you for a career as a certified ASL interpreter in your community. At Wichita State, applied learning is everything. In fact, every degree we offer has a guaranteed applied learning or research experience built right into it equipping you with the relevant skills and experience to make you workforce ready before graduation. As an American Sign Language major, you'll take classes in signed language interpreting, deaf culture and nonverbal communication. After completing foundation courses, students choose from one of the following tracks: The Structure of Language, Language and Culture in Context, or Interpreting Methods. How to apply

Entry requirements for Wichita State University

Freshmen are assured admission to Wichita State if they meet the following-

　　Have a cumulative 2.25 unweighted or higher GPA on a 4.00 scale, OR

　　Achieve an ACT composite of 21 or higher OR a minimum combined SAT ERW M score of 1060 (test optional for admission)

　　ADMISSION BASED ON GRADES FROM HIGH SCHOOL

　　For this option, the SAT or ACT is NOT required for admission.

　　This option is for students who have already graduated from high school (or will soon graduate from high school).

　　Students who have attended another college or university will be considered for transfer admission- even if they do not want transfer credit from their previous school.

　　Students must submit final high school transcripts.

　　Transcripts or examination results may be sent away for verification. If selected, it may take some time for the verification results to be returned.

　　The TOEFL or IELTS are not required to apply

　　OPTION 2- ADMISSION BASED ON SAT OR ACT RESULTS

　　The SAT or ACT is required for this option.

　　This is the best option for students who want admission before completing high school or do not meet the admissions requirements in Option 1.

　　If you have taken the SAT or ACT, you may apply during your final year of high school.
