About the course

The Art and Design major is for those who are curious and artistic and want to develop their talents for practical solutions. Those practical solutions augmented with aesthetic beauty and function is what we call design. We teach critical thinking, the merging of art and design principles, traditional processes with new technologies to produce solutions. The result is a visual message that tells a story of or for a client. A major in Art Design combines a solid design foundation with focus areas in experimental fashion (efashion), textile product design, new media (digital photography/videography, digital illustration) animation and (UX) user experience design.

　　The degree provides an opportunity for students who wish to combine the unique course offerings of Art Design in the areas of: media arts (animation, computer imaging, interactive design illustration, photography), textile design (weaving, fiber arts, surface design), and traditional art design (painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture) with other existing degree tracks within the College of Design. How to apply

Entry requirements for North Carolina State University - Raleigh

IELTS Academic-6.5 or higher (minimum of 6.5 in each sub score)

　　TOEFL IBT-85 or higher (minimum of 18 in each sub score)

　　TOEFL Paper Based-563 or higher. PTE Academic-62 or higher (minimum of 53 in each sub score)

　　Freshman applicants should submit an official copy of Their high school transcript.

　　Submit a completed Common Application or Coalition Application with studio-based major as your first choice major. Deadline is October 15. We strongly suggest choosing a second choice major on your application, if applicable. Your second choice major cannot be another studio-based major.

　　2. Sign up with SlideRoom.

　　3. Submit 10 portfolio images and Design Essay through Slideroom. Deadline is November 1. Guidelines can be found here.

　　4. Activate your personal wolfPAW account and complete the University required checklist.

　　Application Process

　　1. Undergraduate Admissions reviews applicants ? for application essentials (SAT, ACT, credits, etc.) then sends a list of academically competitive students to the College of Design.

　　2. College of Design then reviews the academically competitive students? 10 piece portfolio and Design Essay.

　　3. Applicants continuing in the review process will be invited to Admissions Review Day or a Showcase in January.

　　Admissions Review Day is a mandatory interview with faculty members or an information session given by the department heads (varies by major). This part of the admission process is typically held on a Saturday in late January. Applicants will be notified in December if they have been selected and will receive detailed information at that time.

　　The Showcase is a non-mandatory, information session. This is by invite only.

　　4. Final admissions notifications will be sent early March.
