About the course

The Mechanical Engineering program includes four years of coursework — including physics, risk assessment, thermodynamics, biomechanics and sustainable energy as well as an optional year in the Professional Experience Year (PEY) co-op program. Graduates of the Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program receive a Bachelor of Applied Science degree.

　　The first two years of the program provide students with a broad understanding of the discipline. In the third and fourth years, students are able to tailor their program to their interests and preferred areas of study by selecting technical electives from two of five streams: Bioengineering, Energy & Environment, Manufacturing, Mechatronics and Solid Mechanics & Design.

　　After the third year of study, students are encouraged to participate in the PEY co-op program where they have the opportunity to work full time for 12 to 16 months before returning to their final year of study. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Toronto

If you are attending or have attended a recognized university or college and have a strong academic record, you will be considered for admission based on your postsecondary studies and your most recent annual average, although we will review your entire academic record. Program area prerequisites must be met at, or beyond, the minimum level required for admission from your educational system.

　　The International Baccalaureate Diploma, including at least three Higher Level courses and English HL or SL is required for admission. Prerequisite courses can be presented at either the Standard or Higher Level. For programs with a Math prerequisite, Mathematics SL or HL is required. Math Studies is not acceptable. A total score of 27, excluding bonus points, is required for admission consideration. More competitive programs require a significantly higher score.

　　International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Module: The minimum requirement is an overall band of 6.5, with no band below 6.0. The minimum scores required for the different TOEFL tests are: Internet-based Test: Minimum Requirement: total score of 100 + 22 on Writing, Paper-based Test (discontinued in July 2017) : Minimum Requirement: total score of 600 + 5.0 on TWE
