About the course
We designed the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) with budding scientists in mind. It?s for students who want to pursue postgraduate study. By taking a conjoint with the Bachelor of Music, you can combine your scientific specialisation with your choice of five Music specialisations. For example, you could combine Mathematics with Composition, or Computer Science with Music Studies. Pushing scientific boundaries requires creative and independent thinking ? both of which are fostered by your musical studies ? while the discipline and practice of music complements the acute focus necessary for successful scientific research. In your final year, you will complete an independent scientific project with the guidance of an academic mentor. As a graduate you?ll have the skills and expertise to pursue a wide range of career opportunities in New Zealand and overseas. Building a career on stage is a common goal, but the music industry runs on more than performers and composers. There is a collection of people who keep the industry moving. These include writers, managers, producers and teachers. As a BAdvSci(Hons) graduate you could pursue an international research career, or apply your advanced disciplinary knowledge and research skills in an industry of your choice.
