About the course

BA (Hons) Childhood and Society Studies (Top-Up) is designed for people who want to gain a full undergraduate degree, and are working with children and/or young people. You will develop a broader understanding of a number of childhood-related topics, and use this to analyse your own practice and the practice of others in childhood settings. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Sunderland

To apply for this course you usually need one of the following:

  Foundation Degree in a relevant subject (such as Education and Care)

  240 credits (or equivalent) of a recognised UK undergraduate award, in a relevant subject

  You must also have all of the following:

  GCSE grade C or above in three subjects, which must include Mathematics and English Language, or a minimum of Level 2 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number. If you have studied for a GCSE which has a numerical grade then you will need to achieve a grade 4 or above.

  At least two years experience of working or volunteering in the early years or education sectors

  A letter of endorsement from your employer or provider of voluntary work

  An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

  We will consider applications from applicants who do not hold the relevant academic qualifications, but who do have relevant experience or alternative qualifications.

  International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - You need an overall score of 6.0, with at least 5.5 or higher in each component: reading, writing, listening and speaking. An alternative approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) will also be accepted if the applicant’s element scores are equivalent to those required for IELTS.
