About the course
This degree or certificate prepares students to perform counseling duties consistent with entry level addiction counselor positions in multiple levels of care. The 39-unit curriculum is an accredited and state approved and prepares graduates for the workforce with the required skills, competencies and standards to serve those afflicted with substance use disorders. Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this program, students will be able to demonstrate the ability to utilize their counseling and cognitive abilities necessary to integrate the counselor skills and ethical standards learned in the preceding Alcohol/Drug Studies Counseling program courses. Students will be able to demonstrate the cognitive and counseling abilities necessary to integrate the counselor competencies and standards learned in a two year Alcohol/Drug Studies Counseling program, including evidence-based theory and competencies inherent in entry level alcohol/drug counselor positions. Program Learning Outcomes include, appropriate evaluation and assessment, application of case management skills, application of group and individual counseling methodologies .and creating and adhering to treatment planning standards of care. Student must complete the core courses and selected courses from each section as designated, for a total of 39 units.
This program is accredited by the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Educators and designed to meet the certification requirements of both the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors and the Coalition of Program Standards.
